The Five Highest Performing American Cars of 2019

Some of America’s biggest players continued to push the bounds of world class performance this past year. While sports cars continued to focus on increased speed and handling, electric vehicles continued to make strides in range of power and acceleration. Here are five of the most memorable American cars of 2019.

Ford GT

The five-time Le Mans winning, high performance Ford GT is far from affordable. With nearly a half million dollar price tag, this car is more about showcasing performance capabilities than honoring Ford’s blue-collar roots. The Ford GT boasts clever aerodynamics and a carbon fiber body that houses a twin turbocharged V6 engine. Topping out at 216 MPH, this GT goes from zero to 60 in three seconds.

Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

This fourth generation ZR1 is the most powerful production Corvette to date and Chevy claims it can hang with big boys like Ferrari and Lamborghini. With a 6.2 liter supercharged V-8 engine and 755 horsepower, the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 tops out at 212 MPH.

Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye

This is the fastest Hellcat yet! With a 6.4-liter supercharged Hemi V-8 engine and 797 horsepower, the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye tops out at a head-spinning 203 MPH. This Hellcat boasts the largest factory supercharger to ever hit the production line and launches from zero to 60 in 3.4 seconds. With a price tag of $70,000, the Redeye is on the cheaper end of cars with these capabilities.

Cadillac CTS-V

While the Cadillac CTS doesn’t traditionally rank high amongst muscle car lists, it’s the CTS-V’s combination of luxury and performance that deserves honorable mention. This Cadillac sedan boasts a 6.2 liter V8 engine with 640 horsepower, propelling it from zero to 60 in 3.6 seconds. Top track speed for what was traditionally considered the boat of cars? 200 MPH.

Tesla Model S Performance

The 2019 Tesla Model S excels in both range and acceleration. While it only has a top speed of 155, the Model S performance rivals its gasoline-powered counterparts by reaching zero to 60 in 2.4 seconds. In addition to acceleration capabilities, the Model S has a low center of gravity, responsive steering and smoother brakes, making for a smoother ride. The Model S also boasts an estimated range of 345 miles on a single charge.
